Top Five Donuts

The Work Shoe Blisters crew is lucky to work in an office that provides donuts every Thursday. We got to thinking about donuts this week – how the simple act of giving someone a free ring of fried dough makes everyone so gosh darn happy.

Everyone has a favorite donut. This week, as part of our series on Top Five’s, we present ours:

1.  Lime Kiln Café – Roche Harbor Donuts Maybe it’s because of the fresh salt air and location, but hands down this is the most amazingly delicious donut I’ve ever tasted.  Light and fluffy on the inside, crisp and glazed on the outside (in original, vanilla, chocolate or cinnamon) I’m pretty sure it’s a good thing I don’t live in the San Juan Islands. – Wendy

2. Dynamo Donut Maple Glazed Bacon Apple – I first saw this donut on the Food Network Show “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” (Bacon Edition), and I had to try it.  This donut makes the plain ol’ maple bacon bar seem weak.  The addition of the apple is genious – it provides the needed middle ground of sweet and savory. If you’re ever in SF, definitely make the trip to Dynamo. They have good coffee, too. -Kate

3. Donut Day – Don’t let a drive to the suburbs (Aloha) stop you from trying their mouth-watering apple fritter. You’ll love the juicy apple pieces and perfect amount of glaze – they’ve definitely mastered creation of this oversized donut! – Tammy

4. Krispy Kreme Chocolate Iced Kreme filled – This donut brings back wonderful childhood memories of Sunday morning trips to Krispy Kreme with my family and friends.  Not too sweet or too chocolate, it’s the perfect blend of flavors. – Wendy

5. Voodoo Doughnut Voodoo Doughnut  – Everything about Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland is great: they’re open 24 hours, 2 of their donuts were shut down by the FDA (Pepto and the ‘Quil), you can get married there, and at one point, they offered Swahili lessons. While it may be boring compared to their list of options, my favorite Voodoo is the Voodoo Doll.  It’s glazed in chocolate, filled with raspberry (donut blood) and stuck with pretzels (donut voodoo pins). – Kate

My favourite donuts are from that little stand in Pike Place Market near the wonderful Korean fried chicken place. They’re tiny teeny little donuts, but oh so delicious straight out of his miniature donut theatre…
